CSU, Chico began using electronic portfolios in 1998 within the teacher preparation programs. Over a decade later, CSU, Chico has developed its own assessment system. Student Tracking, Evaluation & Portfolio System (STEPS) is a student–built, faculty–led, and administratively designed assessment system. In 2007 California State University, Chico’s School of Education received national accreditation by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC). In 2009 California State University, Chico was reaccredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) for 10 years, an exceptionally long period of reaccreditation that represents a major affirmation of the University and its programs and initiatives. To help learners understand the expected learning outcomes of their programs Cappella has built some supporting websites, and focuses on their Transparency by Design initiative. The long term goal: “ . . . ePortfolios will become an important method for validating outcome assessment results by publically showcasing student work at exemplary performance levels.”

Student transfer ePortfolios are the vision at ELAC, and Kevin will share their journey.
Foothill College's Dental Hygiene department made the transition from paper to electronic portfolios in the 2008-2009 school year and graduated their first cohort of students who documented their core competencies electronically for academic and career purposes.
Building on a successful citizenship model for access to ePortfolio technology, recent development and strategic efforts encourage college-wide ePortfolio initiatives where the very culture of ePortfolio practice provides teaching and learning links to improvement-focused assessment at both the program and institutional levels. This includes individual ePortfolios, faculty professional development ePortfolios, accreditation ePortfolios, and workforce focused adoptions.
Working with ePortfolio California, Pierce College is implementing faculty ePortfolios – a hot topic for many institutions.
SPU recently moved from a structured ePortfolio system (Chalk and Wire) to a “bPortfolio” system using WordPress with LMS for assessment.
ePortfolio discussions started in 1998 at Valdosta and the project was revitalized in 2000. Diane’s website, Developing Student Electronic Portfolios: From an Idea to an Internet Website with the Valdosta ePortfolio Timeline, is of historical significance.
Electronic Portfolio Initiatives at Virginia Tech facilitates the use of electronic portfolios throughout the university. The ePortfolio project is an effort at improving education, learning assessment, and student engagement by using collaborative online tools that take advantage of the latest technology. Their supporting website (http://eportfolio.vt.edu ) has information on “Folio thinking”.
